Solar Max RA 240
is a forced convection solar space-heating unit. It is a brilliant
innovation that provides maintenance-free thermostatically-controlled
and environmentally friendly heat energy. Applications for this
product include residential housing and public or commercial facilities
such as schools and offices. Solar Max products have been sold
across North America and in Europe.
Technology
Solar Max RA 240
draws ninety cubic feet per minute of colder and relatively heavier
air using a quiet and powerful fan through a filter from near
the floor. This filtered air is pumped through the first check
valve, the specially modified collector core, and then back into
the living space through the last check valve near the ceiling.
The resulting high volume air movement not only filters, but will
destratify as well as directly heat the air in the home or business.
Mounted on any South-East, South, or South-West-facing wall or
roof that is free from shadow the Solar Max RA 240 heats air subject
to automatic temperature control from a regulator located within
the building. Performance tests to Solar Max were conducted by
O’Keefe Technology Inc. in October 2001. These tests indicated
that during a sunlit period, when the outside temperature was
3oC at 8:30am and 17oC at 9:45am, the Solar Max RA 240 increased
the inside room temperature from 10oC to 23oC, with an impressively
quick rise to 20.5oC in the first 15 minutes. Peak BTU performance
was observed during the noon hour where a temperature rise of
between 10 and 12oC degrees resulted in the generation of between
2636 and 2847 Watts of energy. Working experience indicates that
a comfortable room temperature can be maintained in a 93 square
meter dwelling with less than 15 minutes of sunlight per hour.
Tests have also been performed, in accordance with CAN/CSA standard
F378-87 for Solar Collectors, at the National Solar Test Facility
(Canada)
[1]
and as a result, the
Solar Max RA 240 received CSA approval. Thermal performance of
the Solar Max RA 240 was 57.5% under CSA F378-87 test conditions.
Special
Features
Solar Max RA 240 has a cylindrically shaped surface of 2.6 square
meters, as shown in the photo. This cylindrical shape provides
the Solar Max RA 240 with a constant angle of incidence to the
sun throughout the day. This then results in the unit receiving
a higher level of solar radiation for a longer period as compared
to flat panel units.
Peak Watt performance
will actually increase in colder weather due to the greater difference
between input and output temperature and the vertically lower
solar angles of incidence.
The Solar Max RA 240 is lightweight and can be handled by one
person.
The
Solar Max RA 240 does not contain water so there is nothing to
freeze in winter. There are no plumbing requirements to
install the unit.
Solar Max RA 240 provides a warm flow of air, which is equivalent
to having a 3Kw forced air heater in the home. The home would
feel warmer than with a typical 3KW electric heater since the
Solar Max produces a much greater air flow.
Solar Max RA 240 is environmentally friendly and does not produce
any emissions, which helps to reduce Green House Gas emissions.
Solar Max RA 240 only needs a one time investment. The power consumption
for the unit is practically nothing. It has no unknown impacts
to family budget and is not subject to fluctuations in the cost
of non-renewable fuels
